Dear Taylor Momsen,
You are 16. Just though you should know because you seem to be little confused regarding your age vis-a-vis your dressing sense. And why, may I ask, are you so mad at the world? I mean, you’ve got a good enough role in, erm, possibly the most most watched television show in the world. What has the world done to deserve such utter hatred from you? Admitted, 16 may not be the best age to be – boy trouble, parent trouble, girl trouble, just trouble, acne – not the loveliest things in the world. But have you ever taken into consideration that you are earning 589342754937 times the amount any 16 year old does? Or the fact that you got to snog Chace-f**king-Crawford!? Just that would be enough to keep me grinning to my ears for 4638294673 years. You, however, seem unsatisfied.
And really, must you dress like that? Is it imperative for you to dress like a 27 year old? I’m no prude, but that, dear Taylor, is a little bit too much of cleavage for a 16 year old, no? And if you MUST wear that atrocious shade of red lippy, which does not suit you at all, you might want to think about applying it, I don’t know… less sloppily? And if you MUST have racoon eyes, then… No. There is no way ANYONE could look good with raccoon eyes. No, not even you. Shocking, yes? But that, dearie, is the harsh truth.
Your shoes are really gorgeous but they look awful with that dress. I mean, the least you could do is find a pair of shoes that go with that obnoxious excuse for a dress, yes?
Kisses*
Alexis
editor’s edit: feel free to leave a comment below with your OWN letter to Taylor, or anyone else in the cast. They might actually read it on this site! xoxo

Oh.. that was harsh, but sorry to say it is true. Taylor Momsen, you are totally gorgeous!! why do you have to hide that beauty with so much make up and that emo dress!!!!!!!!!!!!! and BTW i totally agree with alexis when she asked what the heck did the world do to you to deserve this!!
That dress is also really revealing in that her bra is more than visible and the girls are well, um, making an appearance so to speak.
She is wearing a bra?!
I didn’t even notice.
and i totally disagree with alexis.
okay, she’s sixteen and yes she is wearing lots of make up.
BUT definetely you cant know wat her life’s like.
and also just because she’s wearing black i doesnt mean that she is mad at the world or that she is emo! and wat did you want her do wear?pink lipgloss and a school uniform? its just her style people
Passerby, are you blind? Can you not see the so evidently pained expression on her face in this photo? And in almost all of her photos.
I’m not to fond of the dress, its just uglyish with those shoes. And maybe she is showing a little much cleavage, but lots of 16yr olds where much skankier. No need to get so agressive.
ugh a few typos in there, just ignore them
and also i thing she looks great in it
i agree with passerby, i think she looks great and she doenst need yet another person judging her, try to put yourself on her shoes, everybody judging you and expecting you to be perfect
Everyone expects her to be perfect so she decides to go all emo and sulky on the world? She is a famous personality, expectations like looking good are part of the package.
erm maybe you should look at what you just wrote
you shouldn’t forget that although she is a famous personality she is stil only human. everyone of us wears silly things sometimes. and who the hell cares?right, nobody. so you should just think of whether you have got the right to judge someone you don’t even know.
Sometimes, yes. Almost all the time, No.
oh my
somebody stop her!
People have tried. And they have failed.
She is like James Bond, the girl. She is on a rampage and she just won’t stop. She just bombards us with uglier dresses, skankier make-up and more sullen expressions.
The world, my friend, is defenseless in front of this destructive entity set out to conquer the fashion world and turn it into a world full of emo people who hate everyone and dress awfully.
She is to fashionistas what Mojo Jojo is to the Powerpuff Girls. Except the Powerpuff Girls usually save the day while the poor fashionistas are just trying in vain to get Miss. Momsen to put on clothes that actually look good on her.
Jokes aside, she is such a pretty girl, if only she wore prettier clothes and expressions, no?
every pic of t. momsen looks like pics of little j. is she confusing those two worlds?
i love it. well not love it but i def dont dislike it. no matter, what shes gorgeous.
If had as many people complaining about my dress-sense as she has, I think I’d look a little peeved. I think she’d look stupid if she were to do an about-turn and start dressing like Jenny season 1. Love or hate what she’s wearing here, at least she has her own style and isn’t put off by the constant barracking about it.
Just imagine if all the cast dressed like Blair, then there would be nobody’s dress sense to bitch about. How boring would that be for all the Perez-wannabes out there (cough Alexis)?
You do not have to dress like your character, Jenny in this case, to look good. I have said this so many times before, Blake Lively does not dress like Serena yet she still manages to look good.
At 16, T. Momsen wears clothes that are too precocious. And I don’t mean for her to start wearing a school girl uniform, she should just wear clothes that suit her frame as well her age. She is really gorgeous, and had she been 27 this dress would be perfect for her because she has the figure and the height to carry it off.
However, taking her age into consideration, this look is a little bit too much.
Having your own sense of style is great, not sticking to the written rules is great, but that doesn’t mean you go over-the-top-I-am-going-to-dress-in-the-exact-opposite-way-I-am-expected-to.
First of all thanks for interacting. Not many writer-types on these kind of fan-sites do that, so props to you.
I think I can boil your argument here down to two points:
1) She always looks bloody moody.
- No argument from me here. I don’t worry too much about this though. She’s posing on the red carpet, which is probably the most artificial setting you can get. A candid this photo isn’t. Smiling is overrated anyway. Miley Cyrus has a permanent smile, but she annoys the hell out of me.
2) Dress isn’t appropriate for a 16 year old.
- Here I don’t quite get your argument. The dress reveals cleavage, but covers up the legs (which is something of a departure for Taylor). It comes across to me as vampy and gothic, but not slutty or trashy. You could make an age-inappropriate argument about the short shorts and fishnets combo Jenny wore on the show recently, but here I don’t understand why you think that. I get that it’s something a typical 16 year old wouldn’t wear, but as you rightly point out, there aren’t many 16 year olds out there who have her means. The Twilight Premier was always going to be a bit of a Halloween party anyway. Your argument hasn’t convinced me I’m afraid.
By the way, Blake herself has admitted in interviews that she’s stolen Serena’s look. This from November’s Nylon:
“No, because I dress just like Serena! I own half her wardrobe, so it’s far too similar to the way I dress.”
Agreed, smiling can, at times, be over rated and Miley’s smile, as much as I adore her, can be most annoying but that doesn’t mean you have to look so awfully mad either.
Showing off skin is not wrong. If you have a good body, you should flaunt. But I really doubt that there is any rule which says you can’t look classy while doing so.
Saying that it is okay to have your boobs practically spilling out of dress is okay as long as you cover your legs up halfway is nonsense. So if you wear a full sleeved shrug and a high waisted skirt that falls all the way down to your ankles, you should just leave that top behind b’cause you are covering up so much skin anyway. -.-
This is not math. You don’t subtract something just b’cause you added something in order to keep the equation right.
She would in fact, have looked a lot better is the dress were shorter and the neck slightly less deep.
Admitted, Blake might at times wear clothes that are more than Serena-esque but she wears them as her own and carries them off well. With Blake, even if she wears an outfit that was worn by Serena in the show in a day ago, she still manages to carry it off in a very effortless way.
With Taylor, it’s like she is trying really hard to be goth and vampy. Which really kills the charm of dressing up, if you ask me. Trying to fit into a certain type of image is different than just fitting in, which is what Blake does.
You are however, entitled to your own opinion. I am just putting forth my thoughts, I am not trying to veer you over to the “dark” side.
Blake wears serena style clothes (far far skankier than this) all the time!
I couldn’t agree more, she dresses up far to old for her age, that dress looks ridiculous with those shows, ur honesty is only fact, she should wait till shes older because she would be wishing she was younger!
If only there were more people like you in this world, dear Shalini.
People seem to think that calling this outfit precocious is the most absurd thing ever imaginable.
that made my day!!! lol so true. she’s 16 and shouldn’t be dressing like such a sluuut.
she looks stunning!! and the fashion right now is… “to look like your mad at the world” I love it…
Is dressing like a 26 year old when you are only 16 also “in” right now?
I think not.
Yes, in fact it is, for about 95% of all 16 year old girls.
Is being a bitch in right now also? I hope so for your sake alexis
Where are you from, Ashley? As in, where do you live?
not sure what that has to do with anything?
Well. I just wanted to what place it was that regards having an opinion as being a bitch.
It’s how you word your opinion… you’re getting these comments for a reason.
Yes, but how I put forth my views is up to me. And there are more than enough people who agree with me too.
I agree that from looking at the picture-I never realized that she was still 16. However, I feel that it’s not because she’s mad, it’s just because she’s into that edgy punk rock style. Celebrities have millions of people hating them, sending them hate mail, hate blogs…I mean, it’s like your parents criticizing every outfit that you wear. I admit that I hate this outfit and I much rather prefer the sweet little Taylor as Cindy Lou again in How the Grinch Stole Christmas, but you don’t know them, so you can’t just judge them.
I am not judging her. I am judging her sense of style.
As I said before, looking good is something that is expected of celebrities. It comes as part of the package.
Just because I criticize her “I Hate You World” look doesn’t mean I want her to put on a pleated skirt with a pink frilly top and sing Britney Spears songs. All I am saying is that she should dress in a more appropriate manner – as a 16 year old would. There are 16 year old emo kids all over the world. Do you see them dressing like this?
Agreed, she probably receives a box full of hate mail everyday but she also has a box full of “Ohmygod! Taylor Momsen, you are so HOT! I LOVE you!” mails.
If she can sulk about the hate mail, can’t she just once smile for all the love(?) mail?
Okay, guys, cool off on the fighting and critisising
But I do have to say that i dont really like this outfit!
The dress is too long for those chunky ‘goth-style’ ankle boots..and the makeup is too harsh for her skin tone. Plus, the dress it to old for her.
I reckon she may have gotten away with it if she shortened the dress, had a neater and higher neckling, lightened up on the makeup and changed the shoes to maybe louboutin pumps – the red soles on them would give an awesome pop of colour!
I agree completely
You guys seemed to have missed a main point. She has a stylist for these kind of award shows/whatever she was going to, so they would select her clothes and she would have a makeup artist as well.
I don’t think what she is wearing is really age appropriate but then that’s completely up to opinion. But she’s living/working in a world of adults so I guess she’s maturing pretty fast and dressing it too.
Taylor claims not to have a stylist. Obviously she has to wear what Eric Daman chooses on the show, but for better or worse the Premiere and party outfits are all supposedly her own work.
Almost everyone in this industry has a stylist and they all have a say in the outfits they wear. The stylist usually pick out a few outfits from which the client picks out the one they wish to wear. So you can’t just say “She has a stylist. It isn’t her fault if she looks like a 27 year old who is ready to sucker punch the guts out of the world.”
And there are so many stars her age who dress perfectly well. So saying that she is working in a world of adults does not excuse dressing like this either.
I totally agree!!!
I used to love her… but now, she is looking really bad :S
She looks like a undertaker
Haha. The undertaker? I didn’t really think of it that way.
hahahaha sooo funny : )
What I just don’t get, is why everyone thinks that this kind of cleavage looks skankie for a 16 year old, while it also looks the same way at a 27 year old !? If she want’s to show this, let her! She covered up her legs, so it isn’t too much. You’re all acting like when somebody is 16 she is a little child. When you’re 16, you’re old enough for boys so you’re old enough to show cleavage.
(Besides, at the age of 16, your boobs are in a good shape, so if there’s any time to show them to the world…. Better now than at age 40).
And the look on het face and de dramatic make-up, it is just an image en yes, she can have it. It may not been you’re style, but she can pull it off.
The real problem with this outfit, is that this dress is the ugliest dress if ever seen! It doesn’t look good on anyone. So Taylor, next time, find a better dress.
I concur completely.
Back off, Alexis! This isn’t even that bad, at least she’s not on drugs or pregnant like some normal 16 year olds.
I think she chose this dress because it was a New Moon promotion or something, for the “vampire” look… just what I think.
But it looks extremely precocious.
I think she looks awful, you think she looks good.
Are people not allowed to have different opinions? So why don’t you, Sharon, back off.
You do realize that you are contradicting yourself?
What have I been saying if not that the dress is awful and that it looks awful on her?
And do you really think she can pull the “dramatic” look off? The make up would be less sloppily applied if my six year old sister was in charge of it. The eye shadow has not been blended well and it just looks like dark circles under her eyes. It hasn’t even been properly defined with eyeliner/ an eye pencil. And bronze rouge with red lips? Never works.
I love smokey eyes and red lips, but not when applied in this manner.
I’m not to fond of this dress, but I sort of like the look taylor has been going for lately with the hair extentions and dark red lipstick. Its more sophisticated then previous looks and all though a smile would help you seem to be more than a little bitchy about this. Maybe you should back off a bit
A little less clevage would be nice though, this is a little skanky
All you are doing is interspersing what I said with a “A smile would be nicer” and ending with a back off.
Contradiction for contradictions sake? Really?
Alexis, my reaction wasn’t only a reaction to your post. You don’t have
to take it personally. I agree with you that the make-up should
be applied better, but my reaction was to the other people here
who said that you don’t need to put on so many make-up when
you’re sixteen. Don’t act like it’s an attack on you.
I know it isn’t. I don’t feel it is.
Did you read Mia’s post alexsis, the only part she agreed with is that she needs to smile. She actually complimented taylors style of late except less slutty
í am so sorry for this girl. and i´m sorry cause to me she just looks like a prostitude. sry.
Definitly not living in Amsterdam if you think that this is what prostitutes look like….
I think what moi meant was something along the lines of an escort. And I agree.
hahahaha that was awesome! totally agree! she needs to act her age. and she looks HORRIBLE!
Thank you.
I dislike both dress and shoes, but I think that’s a matter of taste. But I love the make-up! I think that 16 is just the right age to wear a lot of make-up and a maybe very revealing dress, because it’s the age to try out fashion and to experiment. So, if that’s what you feel like doing, don’t let anybody stop you, Taylor!
Agreed. 16 is a good age to experiment with different types of make-up. And going for dark make-up is not wrong; my only problem is that it is very sloppily applied, yes?
Had it been applied well, I am pretty sure it would have looked great on her because she has the face to carry it off.
Dear Ed Westwick,
Why are you so hot?
Is anyone thinking about the fact that she is a 16 year old girl surrounded by beautiful people far into their 20’s and 30’s. Maybe she’s subconsciously dressing a little more adult simply to blend in.
Besides that’s just what the city is like, I don’t know any 16 year olds in cutesy pink baby dolls with disgusting glitter eyeliner and lipgloss. She’s forced to be, act and look mature in her career and she’s portraying it in her wardrobe. Or would you rather she looked like Hanna Montana?
Some of the comments on here are far to critical of Taylor, some girls really should stop trying to be Gossip Girl. It’s sad.
On the contrary I do not think she looks bad with red lips and “raccoon” eyes and in that dress yes she looks older her age and what? she looks gorgeous (well maybe the dress might be a little bit shorter, cause the top of it looks perfect but the length it is not good ).
So I am asking you: Isn´t more important that she looks beutiful than if she looks older or younger or whatever in her dress?
For example I am 27 so that means that I cant wear tights and t-shirt and snickers like teenageres and I have to wear black dress like you are writing in your letter that she is dressing like 27 years old???
It is good when older woman are dressing in younger generation style but not vice versa??
You’re right, she is 16. She’s at an age where you can have fun and experiment with different looks and styles. Who are you to judge her? I’ll admit, I’m not in love with the dress, but props to her for taking a risk and not looking like a cookie-cutter starlet.
I think she looks f**king great. And where I come from it is very normal dressing like that if you’re a part of the ‘in’ crowd. And yeah, you would say she is, right?
And let the girl have a sense of style, regardless of her age. She’s got a great sense of fashion.
Maybe some of you think she’s dressing older than she is – but think about what that show must have done to her ‘childhood’. No wonder she’s aged early..
