GOSSIP GIRLHey everyone! How well do you think the girls are holding up with all the past drama now that some more is coming?

I thought it might be interesting to have a look at the female cast this week because a lot has been going on for each and every one of them always with the duality -obvious in the “Dan de Fleurette” episode- that some were lucky to find themselves, some thought they did not when they did and some ended up lost.

Let’s start with Serena.

GOSSIP GIRLNow that Lily is back her whole idea of getting some time to find herself -and her father- has come to grips with reality. I must say I was pretty amazed in the metamorphosis of the dramatic escaper-party loving- paparazzi pursued Serena into the strong (almost) independent woman who decides to leave her suite at the Palace, to wear suit-looking dress and to apply for a job. Honestly, I thought she was absolutely terrific in the last episode, being so much more mature than what she seems. How long do you think this grown-up responsible Serena will last? Maybe it has something to do with Carter with whom she plays the tutoring part, trying to get him to reveal his good side…If he ever has one…Whereas, when you get to think about it, when she was dating Dan, and he was the serious one in their relationship she was all eccentric and outgoing…Has Serena finally found her perfect mood? We’ll see if it was all because of Carter or if she’s changing for good this time; with her, you never know.

Since we started with what might have been Dan’s greatest love, let’s go on with Dan’s best friend…

GOSSIP GIRLVanessa is not on the move yet; or at least we thought she was when NYU started and when she was hanging with “people like her” at the party and in the dorms…But now that her roommate, despite of all her good-will, is not the most normal roommate of all, we get to see that Vanessa is still trying to enjoy NYU. Since Dan became “one of them” through moving at the Palace, she is the only one bearing the Brooklyn legacy and she spends more time hanging out with the upper east-siders than casual students. And maybe I was too interested at the time to pay attention to her but her heartbreaking love story with Scott came out of nowhere (maybe I was paying more attention to Scott schemings than to her)…Though she’s definitively not my favourite female character in the series, I believe she deserves a little more than being dumped, than playing opposite guest stars or than being blackmailed (as previewed in the incoming episode). I think she and “Olivia-Kate” could be good friends…Also I think that one reason for all this much ado about nothing ever since the season started may have to do with her lack of a true boyfriend. Personally I though she was great with Nate; if she really has feelings for Scott I think we need to see more of them out of the big secret thing which blurs our judgement on their relationships..We would really begin to feel sorry for her if she were to go through another heartbreak -it would make her a complete “loser”. Do you think she should give it another shot with Nate? Do you think some rivalry is possible with Olivia for Dan? What about Scott?

Let’s move on to Jenny

GOSSIP GIRLJenny ideals of Constance didn’t last long, even though it was a noble and virtuous wish to get some democracy inside the school. We can say we have seen various Jennys among the past seasons, she’s very versatile, her only drive is her stubborness which can be used for good or evil (that’s us to judge). Last week episode was her first true moment and until the end I really thought she had somehow learned how to tone down her Cinderella dreams: she made peace with Chuck, she didn’t lose her temper when Blair assaulted her after the premiere, she is learning how to live among the rich and famous, which is, as Chuck said, what she had always dreamed of. All she needed was someone to reassure her into this dream (Chuck, after Blair at the end of season 2) and the episode ends when she decides to get a hold over Constance…Gossip Girl makes us fear for the worse “a tyran” and if we remember the first episode of the season where Jenny was bragging about the wealthy life of the Hamptons, we take it hard times await the students of the school. And what could stop her now that she got her blessing from the former Queen and her King themselves? I hope some great drama will happen, maybe Jenny will go further than Blair into being a merciless Queen. What do you think? Should we keep our eyes on ruthless Jenny or is it just a phase?

Last but not least, Blair.

GOSSIP GIRLLike Jenny, Blair is in position to find her place, and her proper one this time! She spent the past episodes looking elsewhere for what she didn’t have for granted at NYU -a throne and devoted people. It took her some time not only to accept the fact that NYU is happening and that she needs to fight for it simply because that’s who Blair Waldorf  is, and to realise she might have been selfish when exagerating her own drama. Blair is back into her good ol’ business and the only questions remaining are about her intelligence to adapt the “Blair throne conquest method’ she had at Constance to a place like NYU where she doesn’t understand her to-be subjects. She first needed confidence, then back-up (why else would she have gone “Colonel Kurtz” anyway?) she now has them all. I expect great drama with the hotel Chuck just bought and I also think that if her conquest of NYU goes well the drama will come from her relationship with Chuck,: both are somehow accepting themselves and starting to appropriate the world they live in so routine is on its way…

Don’t you find it funny that out of the four characters portrayed here, the ones who seem the most peaceful with themselves, the most in agreement with themselves are the ones cast into a world they don’t come from? And that Jenny and Vanessa who see their dreams come true are now at the verge of losing themselves?

What do you think?
