   You must be young because if you were my age you’d know that 90210 was a show in the 90’s (probably around the time you were…born) before Gossip Girl was even a thought in the original author’s head. Therefore, 90210 is not “stealing” Gossip Girl episode themes. Also, I’m sure that if you were to scour the episode synopses of every current teen drama you would see similarities between them all. The reason these shows are so popular is because they portray larger than life characters dealing with real-life situations. You may not be able to relate to the characters living the “rich life” but you could relate to the pain they feel when their parents divorce, or when a friend betrays them because it has happened to you or someone you know. These storylines get regurgitated from show to show because life regurgitates them from person to person.

    Some of the things most shows have like the best friend thing. The thing on Tracy and Annie’s dad having a baby is just like the Gossip Girl thing with Rufus and Lily. The high school thing, most shows have that. And the posh houses, Gossip Girl is about rich people and 90210 is in Beverly Hills so of course they will be rich. And the on-off relationships, every show has that. But anyways Gossip Girl is wayyyyyy better than 90210. They’re both good though. I <3 Gossip Girl!!!!!!!!

    H-hello! 90210 was a show in the 90’s. Gossip Girl was probably stemmed from the theme and concept of 90210. What happens in GG and 90210 are realistic situations that people face every day. Tv shows these days are getting less and less creative. But I still <3 GG!

    The story with the adopted son was done on 90210 first, so basically GG copied them. And the original 90210 was made before GG was even thought of.

    Okay, I’m 19 and even I know 90210 is based off of the original, Beverly Hills 90210. Therefore, if anyone were “copying” it would be gossip girl. Seeming Gossip Girl is based on a book, the author may have gotten some ideas from television shows she watched growing up.

    Also, if you think of it… these plot lines are so typical. Girl loves boyfriend, boyfriend falls for best friend… uh oh! Or parents getting divorced… drug scandal… rich kids; its the plot line for almost every teen drama. Sounds a lot like the O.C. too. Or Brooke from OTH. I love all of these shows, and I’m not dissing on any one of them, but people need to stop reading into their similarities so much and just enjoy!

NO THEY ARE NOT THE SAME. they are both generalizing in a way the “common” teen problems such as love/sex/school/family. argh! i am so annoyed to u ryt now!

    90210 copies storylines from lots of shows. I mean, I like 90210, but it will never be a classic show that people will be watching years after it ends, like GG or The OC or One Tree Hill. It’s those 3 shows that I will still love years from now, because they’re memorable and unique, but 90210 isn’t memorable or unique. It’s fun. But it’s not original.

    While I immediately thought the same thing as oldhat (the whole 90210 was a show before GG ever was thing), I have to say that the new 90210 is a completey different show from the old one, and the new one came out after GG did, so therefore I think Rina makes a very valid point. However I think its merely coincidence that these shows, which are aired on the same network and involve characters of the same age group happen to have similar stories occuring within their plots. I just wonder why it matters? I mean there are a million shows that are just a similar…

    like look at degrassi. most of the stuff you listed can be found in degrassi as well. does that mean that GG was ripping off degrassi?

    alot of tv shows relate to each other and the reason for that is, if one shows popular and the storyline/genre/etc is good then of course they are going to try to duplicate that show ! some else will , but in a more subtle way.

    and josh schwartz has used things from the o.c. and put em into GG too – e.g. summer and marissa’s parents getting engaged and move in together, serena and chucks parents get married and move in together.

    also, they are both teen dramas. so nothing can be too original here lol

    first to the author of the article : Do you have a life? I mean you just mentioned every single thing GG and 90210 have in common. And if you think 90210 stole GG’s ideas or plots, then why do you keep watching ? Just forget about it and have your own fun and watch GG all you want. Dont need to be hating on 90210 just cause you dont like it . doesnt mean the rest of us dont.
    And not to be mean but i dont see whats so special about Gossip Girl or 90210 . I really like to watch both of them, but sometimes i just watch cause im bored. And you gotta understand, especially if your a teen, that these are the problems we all go through. We all have our ‘GG’ & ‘90210′ moments. Girls being best friends should not be a shock and should not be one of your ‘copied things’, cause in every series and everywhere around the world there are best friends. Love triangles? Is a way to spice up stuff. Cause who wants to watch a couple be happy and lovey dovey and nothing seems to go wrong, that would just be boring. Parents divorcing? Oh. what a shock! That happens everywhere around the world and in every series. Basically what im saying is that most of these similarities arent valid cause they happen in every series and in peoples lives. So please, just let this go, enjoy Gossip Girl or 90210, and dont hate on the tv shows and try to get them cancelled jsut cause you hate them, cause there are actually other people in the world who like it. Its not just you GG lovers. Its not all about you/ And there was one particular girl : inlove with ed westwick(L). I mean really honey, how pathetic could you get? Apparently your so in love with ed westwick you cant think, type or see clearly, cause you sound 5 to me. And obsessed little kid with no life, and her only comfort seems to be these series. And cause of these series that little girls watch, these girls will want to be just like them in the future, and eventually we are all screwed. So you know what ? Instead of obsessing over GG or 90210 or whatever other tv show, how about you go outside and actually make some friends, and maybe live a life of your own

    OMG! I’m sorry but this is rubbish. You say 90210 is copying GG but come on, all these storylines have been used in a million other shows. In fact i think most shows use all these storylines anyway.
    I can’t believe you actually said that because there was an on/off relationship they were copying. I dare you to find me a TV show where this isn’t happening. The ONLY one on your list that counts in the slightest is the adoption story and even that’s been done before GG. Apart from that they’re ALL standard TV storylines. God forbid that a TEEN drama is based in high school. Hmmm looks like GG copied One Tree Hill, Dawsons Creek etc (I can’t even be bothered to name any more than two). Actually, talking of One Tree Hill i can only see two of these storylines that they didn’t do first – who’s copying who now? So much for gossip girl being unique. In fact it’s articles like this that make me wonder why i even bother watching GG anymore. You know i don’t even know why i’m bothering to reply to your stupidity but i feel someone needs to correct it.

    I agree with pretty much everyone above — these are just standard storylines. They can be traced back before the emergence of teen dramas to the classic 80s soaps of Dallas, Dynasty, Knots Landing, and Falcon Crest – which can be traced back to old Hollywood dramas, which can be traced back to novels and other written works for the past centuries. Think of The Iliad (or think of Brad Pitt’s Troy if you aren’t familiar with Homer): the entire plot is based on jealousy, a love affair, and teenage angst.

    Stories are adjusted throughout time for their setting, but the human condition doesn’t change…so the stories we tell aren’t going to change that much.

    Oh dammit, I saw that comming. I share the opinion of Nick. Most TV shows uses standard storylines and then mix it up with a new thing or a new location and to many of us it’s still interessting ’cause for me it’s funa and torture at the same moment to see what happens to the character. And actually kids, just accept that other people maybe like 90210 more than GG. There’s nothing about it. You know that GG has many, just like 90210, fans so just shut the hell up and keep watching.

    Uhmmm… theyre two shows set in high school.big deal.so are half of the other shows on tv right now.and for a show set in high school you kind of have limited options dude.and some of the things that 90210 supposedly ‘copied’ were total reaches.like the affairs with the students.in 90210 she wasnt actually a student.and he was never fired.so you should seriously consider some fact checking.and the cast dating in real life? im sure they most definitely did that to try to be JUST like gossip girl. and these seasons were going on at the same time.all of the writing was done and over with before any episodes came on the air.so you have zero way of knowing who supposedly copied who.oh; and by the way.acronyms make for suckish article titles.

    If that’s right, then you can say that GG is stealing a lot of their storylines from other shows. One tree hill for example.
    OTH: 1.is set on high school.
    2.Nathan and Brooke are rich.
    3.Peyton/Lucas/Brooke-love triangle.
    4.Brooke doesn’t want to mend her relationship with Peyton(season 1)
    5.there’s always bestfriends in all shows?
    6.Brooke’s pregnancy scare?
    and so on..Every show can be similar to another show. 90210 is not copying GG.

    These “similarities” are a bunch of coincidences. Not just 90210 and GG are set in high school, there are so many more on television. Love triangles happen in TV it’s not a very unique plot line so, there is no way of avoiding it. AND, HOW IS ADRIANNA’S PREGNANCY EVEN RELEVANT TO BLAIR’S PREGNANCY SCARE?!?
    PLEASE, if you want to state similarities between these two shows, give me hard evidence, not this BS.

    I think it is mere coincidence..GG was meant ot be by the book, and 90210 was a spin off from the originals follwing thru Melrose place and other spin offs. I know, I knwo, too much coincidence. Well, it does happens…after all, the dramas are of teenage life which i understand most people are in the common.

      90210 does copy gossip girl but so does every show…
      but some of them stated above are just coincedences..

    tHis is really a bad post. I mean there are / have been so many tv-shows based on teenager problems.
    I love both shows..
    At the beginning I loved GG more than 90210 because it was very interesting ( I also read the books) but there have been some episodes I thought : wtf!? this is so boring.. But now it’s going back in the good direction. btw : I love the clothes their wearing, the houses their living in.. ect. It’s makes the show more fun watching.

    Since Naomi started dating Liam the 90210 became just incredible !! The show made me go back to the times of the OC. And I must confess, that was the best tvshow ever!! I’ve watched it soo many times!

    And there have been so many other shows like these.. think of OTH, the OC, Dawson’s Creek..
